Energy Tips
Heating & Cooling
Most people do not realize the true cost of heating and cooling your home. In fact, heating and cooling your home averages 43% of your utility bill each month.
No matter what kind of heating and cooling you use, there are a few things that you can do to help save you money.
Energy Saving Tips:
- Clean and replace filters in your HVAC units and furnaces one a month.
- Set your thermostat low in the winter and high in the summer. You will be surprised how just a few degrees can make a big dent in your bill!
- Once a month clean all of your air registers, baseboard heaters and radiators. In addition, make sure they are not blocked by your furniture or drapes.
- During cooler months, keep your drapes and shades on the south facing windows open during the day to allow the sunlight to help heat your home.
- During hotter months, keep your windows closed during the day to prevent heat from sun out. A window tint film will help with this as well. It is inexpensive to do yourself and most home supply stores carry the film and inexpensive instillation kits.
When it comes to heating and cooling our homes, a little bit goes a long way. Implementing a few of these tips can add up to big yearly savings.
Insulation

This is one of the most important energy-saving methods to follow. Insulation forms a barrier which reduces the amount of energy required to heat and cool your home or business. It makes it easier and less expensive to provide consistent comfort year around.
Make sure to insulate the shell of your building, as well as the outer walls, ceiling, windows, doors, crawlspaces and floors.
